Welcome to John Nelson Photography, I am an award winning professional wedding photographer based in Yorkshire, 30 minutes from Manchester and Leeds covering Greater Manchester, Yorkshire, Lancashire and the North.
I'll photograph your day as it happens in my own natural style with little or no influence from me. I love to capture all the emotions and expressions naturally throughout the day in my own unique style.
Getting married is one of the biggest celebrations of our lives, it's a day to be enjoyed with family and friends, it's not a day to spend hours standing in a line with a forced smile. Your pictures will be a record of your day, each time you look back at them you will be reminded of a wonderful day of tears, laughter and celebrations.
If portraits tickle your fancy, we can take some time away from the crowd and capture some beautiful relaxed wedding portraits, or we can set up some flash equipment and go for the big jaw dropping wow shots that you would be proud to hang on your wall. It's your big day, you choose.
I love to photograph weddings, It combines so many photographic elements. I am constantly on my toes looking for the next photograph, predicting what will happen next with the kid and the ice cream, or who will be the crier during the speeches. All this is done unobtrusively, being careful not to get in the way and disturb your wedding. It's an amazing day, so much effort goes into planning a wedding and I want to be there to help record every moment.
I have photographed weddings all over the UK, North, South and West Yorkshire are my main stomping ground (come on the East side, get booking!) Yorkshire has some of the best wedding venues in the UK, from the National Trusts barn wedding venue at East Riddlesden Hall, Holdsworth House Jacobean venue near Halifax and the amazing views at the Fleece Countryside Inn in Barkisland. This year I shot Jo and Barry's wedding at Springkell near Lockerbie in Scotland and what a stunning venue that was! I have been to Manchester, Lancashire, Cumbria, even a Journey down to Norfolk this year so far. So no matter where your wedding is get in touch for a chat.
I'm not adverse to a little travel time, in fact I quite enjoy getting out of the mad house for a while. So if you are getting married abroad, Italy, Greece, Spain, France or even America, Get in touch and we can discuss your requirements.
And last of all, if you're thinking that you might just get uncle Bob to photograph your wedding...…...DON'T! I absolutely guarantee unless Bob is a seasoned professional you wont get the photographs you deserve, you want to look back on your photographs and be filled of memories of happiness! Hire a professional and get the photographs you want.
Now go look at our gallery and see how we roll!
A bit about me... I'm a dad of three amazing children, Poppy, Jude and Lottie and a husband to a beautifully impatient wife Sarah. We enjoy all the average family things, walks, bike rides, Sunday dinners but we also have an allotment where we like to spend lazy Saturday afternoons (when I'm not shooting weddings) with the kids who love picking their own strawberries .
I was brought up on the outskirts of Liverpool and moved to Yorkshire after leaving the army. Yorkshire is such a stunning place, I love the rolling hills of the north York moors and the hustle and bustle of city centres like Leeds, Sheffield and York and the scenic Yorkshire coast of Whitby. Although I'm Yorkshire based and photograph a lot of my weddings here I am only 30 minutes from the M6 so I have great access to destinations up and down the country from Manchester to Norfolk, Cumbria and Scotland.
When I photograph a wedding the most important aspect for me is to record your day as it happens and to remain unobtrusive. I try to shoot my weddings as organically as possible, I don't meddle or interfere the only thing that is posed or staged are your portrait photographs. This in turn tells a true story of your amazing day, this sounds a bit cheesy but I promise I couldn't be any less cheesy if I tried.
Our family business has been up and running since 2013, however 2017 was a pretty cool year for me, we shot our highest number of weddings to date and managed to get through to the regional finals of The Wedding Industry Awards and I was accepted into The Fearless Photographers community.
Lets see what 2018 has to bring!
